Introducing a category-defining advancement in display technology: the first safe, scalable system for real-time, mid-air, interactive volumetric visuals; no screens, headsets, or enclosures required

The Blaise Photonics VAST System represents a milestone long envisioned in science fiction, from Star Wars to Blade Runner to Iron Man, now realized in a functional, scalable platform. Despite widespread misuse of the term “hologram,” the VAST System is the first to combine real-time rendering, free-space projection, volumetrics, and physical interactivity in a single platform.

THE TECHNOLOGY

The VAST System is the first to combine free-space projection, volumetric structure, real-time rendering, and physical interactivity in a single, safe, scalable platform. Every other existing "hologram display" company projects flat 2D video onto transparent screens or meshes, plays flat 2D video on a spinning fan, has very limited front-only viewing angles, or is enclosed in a container.

Our technology is a huge leap forward in real time mid air display holography.

VOLUMETRIC

Content occupies real three-dimensional space — not an illusion. Visible from any angle simultaneously.

FLOATING

No screen, no enclosure, no container. Visuals exist in mid-air in the same physical space as the viewer.

INTERACTIVE

Mid-air touch responsive. Users physically interact with floating content using natural gestures and speech.

USER INDEPENDENT

No tracking of cameras or phones. No tracking of viewer eyes or head positions. All viewers interact freely and naturally. Content exists in real world space.

REAL-TIME

Full-color rendering at display speeds. No long exposure. Live, dynamic content generation.

SCALABLE

Functionality designed to scale across installation sizes, from handheld to architectural.

Blaise Photonics has been granted a 1st U.S. Utility Patent and has received a Notice of Allowance for the granting of a 2nd U.S. Utility Patent. In addition, Blaise Photonics is currently prosecuting patent applications in more than 30 countries/regions globally, including Canada, China, Japan, Mexico, and Europe.

MARKET CONTEXT

Why every current “hologram” falls short.

The category has been defined by flat illusions, strictly limited views, and lack of scaling capability. The Blaise Photonics VAST System is the first true exit from all of these constraints at once.

Spinning Fan Displays

2D video on persistence-of-vision fans. No depth, flat video, and cannot be safely touched. Fans marketed as 3D are still not.

Transparent screen reflections. Flat 2D, requires controlled lighting, and limited viewing angles. Tupac at Coachella model. The common "holographic" display approach.

Pepper's Ghost Illusion

Advanced but require limited front viewing positions and cost-prohibitive specialized hardware. Not easily scalable or accessible.

Light Field Displays

3D volume but contained in a physical housing with fast-moving internal components. Limited resolution, cannot be touched, and cannot be scaled readily above desktop size.

iS IT REAL ?” f.a.q.

All our unique features are covered by our Patent & IP protection.

Is it technically A REAL HOLOGRAM?

YES! We use actual laser diffraction to build volumetric 3D subjects out of light, so we are one of only a handful of companies globally that fall under the technical definition of a real true Hologram! The only difference between us and a traditional real holograms is the medium which captures the diffraction: traditionally they use still panes of glass or film whereas our medium updates and refreshes continuously mid-air. Check out our other feature about the current marketed “holographic” technologies and how we are different.

is it really volumetric 3D?

YES! We stagger the invisible flowing columns in real space, and we have the ability to turn them individually on and off, so that way we can access any point in XYZ coordinates (width, height, and depth) within a given volume. We sync the flow pressure and density with the laser control refresh rate so the laser can hit a column only when it has access to it. This allows us to truly build out our 3D volumetric mid air subjects.

Does it use vapor?

Yes, we use a very controlled and limited amount of glycol vapor. Without the lasers it is invisible to the eye and we have a recycling system that doesn’t blast it out everywhere and build up like most do. So there is no issue with breathing. ⁃ In the configuration we built, there are invisible vertical isolated columns that are staggered in real 3D space in depth. We then intersect those columns individually with laser beams to make floating volumetric 3D pixels, also known as Voxels. Our custom software stack tells the laser beams where to cross the invisible columns, which creates and places a Voxel in real 3D air space. These Voxels build out together like legos or a 3D printer to create an isolated floating subject made of light in the room with you. We update those laser beams in fractions of a second to add motion to the 3D light subjects.

How does the touch interactivity work?

We use infrared laser sensors to map distance in real space (ToF LiDAR). This distance sensing instantly sends the information when your finger or hands touch invisible IR beams to update the hologram in real time. (These lasers are different frequencies than the lasers used to build the light objects in the visible spectrum.) So you are organically able to touch reactive buttons, push holograms, stretch them with your fingers, and more, naturally. There is no feeling feedback except the light rush of air over your hand that you perceive only when you are reaching inside the general volume space.

How is it contained?

Essentially, it is not! We use air to contain air, so there is no container! Pressure, temperature, density, and flow rate determine the “edges” of the volume, but there is no glass or plastic or anything between the holograms and the rest of the room. Lasers hit internal termination points and particulate is recycled to keep it safe.

How does it scale?

Physically: Similar to how HD flatscreens scale to giant LED video walls. The underlying functionality remains the same but there are varied aspects of the different forms to be considered.

Commercially: Generally we see 3 main lucrative scalable form factor models for markets: Desktop, Human, & Room/Warehouse:

  • Desktop for realtime CAD, education for medical and other fields, gaming potential + more

  • Human for human body scale telepresence, remote live performances and appearances, product displays or demos, and permanent ad space + more

  • Room/Warehouse for simulations, training, interior design, architecture mockup, attractions and experiences, ancillary, concept cars + more

First models can potentially be rolled out to the public in a year!

WHEN CAN I TRY IT?

Currently we are only demoing for interest in investment and acquisition. Since there are many potential viable uses for this technology, these meetings will determine the first models available and how they roll out to the public. We are currently a technology & IP company with groundbreaking tech, but it will be refined further before it is brought to the public.
